My mother was the youngest among four siblings, all girls. To my knowledge my maternal grandfather married again when he got widowed when Mama was only a year old. The second marriage produced another set of three daughters: Tia Puring, Tia Rosing (who remained single in her lifetime) and Tia Long.
I never got to meet any of my maternal grandparents though.
All sisters were pretty close to each other. Every one has gone to the life beyond except for the youngest, Tia Long, whose 80th birthday we celebrated last September.
There is something uncanny when the above photo was taken. For one thing everyone was saying we were replicas of our own mothers. I just realized that my cousins and I found ourselves taking the same sitting position that our respective mothers before us had when they had the above old photo taken: My mother and me, Dinah and Tia Choleng then Peng and Tia Mameng. It was a perfect representation of the first generation.
In the above photo, Tia Puring was now represented by Jesusa who came late during the birthday celebration.2nd Row, L-R: Violet, Peng, Serena, Tia Long, Dinah, Lolit, Salve and Clemen.
This birthday celebration was one of those rare occasions when maternal cousins had the chance to get together again and reminisce memories of childhood years.
In fact it was this gathering that finally prompted me to start the "San Buenaventura Clan" at Yahoo group.
