COLLECTIONS OF PERIODICALS

Since I am preparing for our transfer to our new place hopefully next month before Christmas, I am now in the act of sorting out tons of files, records, collections of various objects or junks accummulated through the years. I need to decide what to discard and what to keep for posterity; what would be useful or deemed useless because I would not dream of bringing them with me when we transfer to the new house. The new house is supposed to have a 'minimalist' look and I wouldn't have any place for all these junks. I have this tendency to horde things you know and it is becoming difficult for me to do away with them. It is now time I guess to practice detachment from all these non-essential things in life.

There are however some periodicals that I have painstakingly collected 20 years ago that I cannot do away with. It is full of historical value so I plan to have them book- binded for my library.

I have a complete collection of "MR & MS" which first came out at the height of Ninoy Aquino's assasination spanning through the snap election between Cory Aquino and Marcos. Very historical indeed....

Other 'underground' tabloids later emerged like the "We Forum", "Veritas" and the "Philippine Inquirer' which were all interesting reading so I kept them all in files.

I have always been interested in history. It is always good to look back the way we were and compare it with the here and now and reflect, have we truly learned our lessons of the past? If you ask me - I don't think we did.... It is sad but Filipinos never learn......
